Exercise is a common trigger for people with asthma, but using medication such as inhalers before you exercise can help.

Transcript: Exercise commonly is a trigger for people with asthma. Occasionally that’s the only trigger, but most folks with exercise problems in asthma it’s just part of the overall allergy infection, small irritant type trigger systems.
Exercise doesn’t make your lungs stronger. Typically exercise will set off the asthma unless you’re under great control. There’s a lot of medications that we can use to do this and the most common one is using the albuterol inhaler before you exercise.
