Full transcript: Another allergy myth is that peanut and tree nut allergies are the same thing. Those are actually separate allergies. Most people who have a peanut allergy aren’t allergic to the tree nuts such as cashews, almonds, or pecans. If you mix the two together and they touch each other, the allergens cross over and you’re going to get trace or even a lot of amounts and can have problems. But when you think of peanuts, they grow under the ground. Tree nuts grow above the ground and so they look different to our immune system.
